Corporate / Business Development Specialist – Crop Inputs

Boost Biomes is using the powerful social networks among microbes to provide novel, sustainable solutions to feed and heal people everywhere. Our technology differentiator is the development of a causal understanding of microbial interactions powerful enough to allow the rational construction of designer functional consortia.

Our first products seek to reduce the enormous waste in agricultural products due to crop loss to fungal pests in the field and post-harvest. There is significant need for new biological, organic, safe biopesticides for crops; current chemical products have many challenges, such as regulatory burden for growers and safety concerns of consumers.

Boost’s core technology is a proprietary discovery platform that uses high throughput sequencing, selective enrichment and advanced informatics to identify microbial products with important commercial roles. The Corporate / Business Development Specialist - Crop Inputs will support key initiatives in corporate and business development. You will be responsible for critical research, organization and presentation of findings to enable company decision-making and business opportunities. This is a unique, hybrid role that combines crop agricultural experience with business savvy and spreadsheet finesse. You must have hands on experience with crop inputs in the field, knowledge of pathogens and pests, and the ability to evaluate each opportunity in a form that provides clear analysis and rationale for recommendations.

You are data-driven, a highly motivated individual, and a self-starter with a positive attitude and proven ability to follow through. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting value creation through identifying and supporting new product and collaboration opportunities

Key requirements include an MBA and some or all of: an agronomy degree, experience as a PCA/CCA or equivalent, and/or experience or training in ESG (environment, social and governance), and at least 3 years of experience in agriculture.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Provide critical supporting research, economic analysis and insights for Corporate and Business Development, such as:

    o Analysis of disease/pest targets, by crop, and by geographic region, with accompanying landscape and regulatory analyses, that enable go/no-go decisions for Boost to pursue product concepts into development

    o Supporting research and quantification of benefits from products or product concepts, to enable additional decision-making internally and sales externally

    o Ongoing support and quantitative analysis of sustainability, carbon capture and other aspects of ESG to add value to Boost

  • Ensure that the company is up-to-date on relevant trends in the agricultural chemicals, biopesticide and agtech space

  • Develop new ideas and product concepts to be added to our discovery and development pipeline

  • Evaluate new business opportunities, markets and technologies to support Boost’s corporate development initiatives

  • Prospect, analyze and solicit new business development collaborations via relevant databases, conferences, online industry news, professional network and other relevant sources; prioritize among opportunities via quantitative assessments of the opportunities

  • Develop and deliver impactful presentations to key internal and external prospects and stakeholders that successfully persuade the target audience in supporting the business development initiatives

  • Collect, analyze and transmit information regarding market evolution, competitors and technology trends

  • Attend, prospect and support external conferences related to Boost’s business needs

Requirements

  • Specific work experience in agriculture as follows is ESSENTIAL FOR CONSIDERATION FOR THIS POSITION:

    o In the area of crop protection and crop nutrition

    o Working directly with distributors and growers, or working for a crop input company with direct exposure to the crop agricultural industry

  • MBA Degree

  • Undergraduate Education:

    o Agronomy degree plus at least 2 years of specific, hands-on work experience in agriculture

    OR

    o Business undergraduate degree plus at least 5 years of specific hands-on work experience in agriculture

  • Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following:

    o PCA, CCA or similar training

    o Experience with ESG via training or specific work experience

    o Working knowledge of product development, regulatory, and scientific affairs as it relates to the agrochemical industry

    o On-farm experience

    o Experience working in food safety: demonstrable experience understanding the impact of human pathogens that infest food products

Career Experience & Skills

  • Strong quantitative skills; spreadsheet expert; demonstrated ability to research, find, quantify and integrate hard-to-find data into analyses

  • Expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and modeling non-financial processes to evaluate opportunities and enable data-driven decision-making

  • Leverages existing expertise in AgTech space to develop new ideas and product concepts to be added to our discovery and development pipeline.

  • Must possess the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with internal stakeholders

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills required

  • Professional network in the AgTech / Biologicals space preferred

  • Ability to apply critical/strategic thinking to each opportunity
